May 2009 A History of Fire in Claremont Canyon was produced by the Conservancy and written by board member Jerry Kent. Jerry’s encyclopedic knowledge of the Canyon’s fire history is informed by his marvelous archival photos, which graphically illustrate the threat of fire we face in the Canyon over time and today.

with Robert Mackler. Robert takes us on the loop trail of Garber Park at the base of Claremont Canyon where we find many mushrooms, including a couple good examples of Amanita phalloides (death cap).
November 18, 2008 Redwood Walk in Upper Canyon (4 minutes) with Joe Engbeck of the Claremont Canyon Conservancy and Mia Monroe, Head Park Ranger from Muir Woods. Joe takes us down the trail from Four Corners to the circle of redwoods at Creekside Place. Joes tells us a little of the history of planting redwoods here, first in 1975 by the Rotary Club and then 30 years later by the Conservancy. Mia provides comments and lessons of the natural ecology in redwood areas.
Dominick leads us along the Side Hill Trail in the upper canyon for expansive views and calming yoga along the way.
July 20, 2008 Yoga Hike with Domonick Wegesin (1 min.) Domonick leads a group along the wooded paths of Garber Park, a little known City of Oakland Park at the base of Claremont Canyon.
May 10, 2008 Spring Bird Walk with Dave Quady (3 min.)
Dave takes a group of birders into Claremont Canyon to three locations. We hear and see a total of 36 birds. Some songs are recorded on this three-minute clip.
May 7, 2008 Wild Plants and Wildlife along Drury Court with Bill McClung and Kay Loughman (3 min)
Bill shows us an area at the wildland-urban interface where land private land has been managed to select for native plants by cutting and discouraging weeds. Kay points out the birds we see and hear in the area.
Three baby great horned owls are seen in their nest about 20 feet up in a eucalyptus tree on the lower trail in the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve. Photographers Sharon Beals and Marcus Armani sit for an hour or two while the babies huddle and wait for their parents to return.
Earth Day Work Party with Tom Klatt Part II (1 min.)
Tom Klatt and others take on French broom in the area of the canyon on UC property where eucalyptus were removed and chipped on site. Some of us scouted out native plants and observed places where redwood saplings were recently planted by eagle scouts.
Dave takes a small group into Claremont Canyon on a chilly morning. As the canyon warms up we observe 19 bird species.
Geology Walk with Doris Sloan Part II (3 min.)
Doris Sloan takes a group of about 50 people on a nature walk from Claremont Canyon to Strawberry Canyon and back. She shows and describes Moraga volcanic basalt, Orinda sedimentary rock and Claremont chert.
September 11, 2007 Talk and Tour with Entomologists Jerry Powell, Tim Manolis, and Doug Vaughan (4 minutes). Jerry tells us about UC's California insect collection at the Essig Museum of Entomology then Tim and Doug take us on a tour in Claremont Canyon where we meet up with Bentley High School students, and later catch some Onodate specimens.
